Dear Class of 1986 It was great seeing so many of you on Friday night. I know I didn't get to see all of you but all of you were in my heart. I feature your class and the reunion in my column in the Calhoun Times this Saturday October 21. I don't name names because I can't name them all. I do promote your website and give the address in two different places in the column. Let me again tell you how much I enjoy "visiting" with all of you by going to the website. It is the best I have ever seen. Valerie Jackson has told me all about your gathering on Saturday night. Words of praise for an outstand gathering characterized all her words. I will never forget any of you. May God bless your lives with happiness, health and prosperity. I love you for what you mean to me and the memories I will always cherish. This website will be visited often as long as it is "up." I hope you keep it going for a long, long time. I think this website and your reunion is the epitome of what friendship and attachment is all about. Thank you for being a part of my life. Coach Jerry Smith

Our subscription is scheduled to expire on June 6, 2007, so we have some time to think about it. Annual cost to keep this website going would be $149 per year. Maybe we can convince five businesses in Calhoun to pay $30 a year for a front page advertisement on the website. Many of our classmates live within shopping distance of Calhoun businesses.

Not to be outdated by the younger crowd, it's occurred to me that we've all simply been participating in the same activities as our younger friends. It's just that they carry on multiple conversations online on their myspace accounts. My fears of losing this website have finally been allayed by realizing that one of us just needs to create a myspace webpage and we can continue w/ our online reunion. It's only taken, what, 2-3 months?? for me to figure this out. If we can't figure it out maybe one of you with teenage children can get the scoop from them.

Hello everyone -- I'm late to the party but have really enjoyed reading all the messages. Since I'm late I have several comments. First, Congrats to Mitchell . . . you are going to experience a life altering event . . . nothing can compare to the miracle of a new baby. Congrats to India -- I can't imagine 3 . . . my two are enough for me. You are lovely as ever! JC -- I like your comment. I did not really connect with anyone in hs and have not kept in touch with anyone. I regret not having the close friendships some of you had and still have. I'm really enjoying reading all the stories. Hey Jeff -- oh, you still look as good as always -- I didn't notice any extra weight! Besides, you're still the same Jeff on the inside. Sorry about your home and even though we weren't very good friends . . . I miss Vic too. I'll always remember his smile. And Gail, doesn't matter if you graduated with us or not we went to school together many years and looking forward to seeing you. I'd like to hear from some others. And I hope the GC folks attend. I'd love to see them. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Well, I'm back and I want to say thanks for all the sweet comments (and the pink website!) welcoming our new baby. We're all adjusting well and as I told Tara, we should have this 3 kid routine down in 10-12 years! Are ya'll sure you want to have this reunion in 4 weeks? Is it possible to lose 10 pounds a week? Really though, I'm looking forward to seeing all my cyber friends in person. I missed this place the last two weeks.

Can anyone get a picture of Mr George Chambers to add the In Memoriam page? He was principal at Eastside. That was back when kids were actually scared of the principal - remember he had an electric paddle in his office.

Hello, Class of 1986! I have just spent over an hour enjoying your site. Thanks to Jim Burke for forwarding it to me. I am now an assistant principal at Morgan County High School in Madison, Georgia. The words and pictures have taken me back to a time when we were all more innocent and life seemed simpler. I have laughed and cried at the memories, but mostly laughed because your class was so much fun! Obviously, no one has lost his/her sense of humor. Each of you has a special place in my heart as part of my first teaching experience. I am so proud of your accomplishments. I always knew you were a special group, and 20 years later you're still the best I ever taught. Thanks for sharing a part of your lives with me... it was truly one of the best times of my life. Enjoy your reunion and continue to care about each other... it's your trademark! Fondly, Pat Leming

About Newspaper articles/pictures- When I was growing up, my mom was notorious for saving everything, including newspaper articles and pictures of people in my class/grade. I have a good number of clippings and some of them date back to 1975/76. Clippings concerning CJHS and CHS will be submitted to the site, while others will not. If you are looking for an old article or picture, of yourself or a classmate, just message me and ask. There's a good chance I might have it. I'll be happy to scan and send any clippings through email.

About photos- I've had several people message me and thank me for submitting the photos to the site. I just want to say that I am very happy to share them with all of you. As I find the photos, in various places around my house, I'm submitting them to Jerry. I have quite a few pictures, but I'm submitting the ones that are just of people in our class. I do have many that include people in other classes... '84,'85, etc... (Ex: students in art and art history classes, chorus, etc...) If you would like to see those, just message me and I'll send them to you in email. Side note: Some of the photos that I took at the CJHS talent show did not turn out very well. I just submitted the best that I could find.

I also have photos of our eighth grade talent show, and many photos of various people, in various classes, etc...etc... So far, I've only found about half of these photos, but I think the rest is in a trunk in my converted attic. Hopefully, this weekend, I will be able to dig around and see what I can find. Michele- My husband, Phil, and I moved to Illinois about ten years ago. After working for CCA Electronics in Fairburn (GA), Phil got a job working for a company called Broadcast Electronics. BE is located in Quincy and they make radio transmitters and radio related stuff. Phil started there as an RF Test Tech, but now he does RF Customer Service. Phil is much older than me (11 years- Dalton High class of 1975) and in the 1980's, he worked as a DJ for WJTH. Of course, I didn't meet him until many years later. By then, he was the Chief Broadcasting Engineer for WDEF 92.3 in Chattanooga. I still find that a lot people remember him as being a DJ in Calhoun.

Just wanted to make sure newcomers to the site knew about the Forums. Start a new topic, or chime in on something ongoing. I think we have all tapped into some great old memories. Also...I know you guys have photos to submit. I became familiar with the functions of a scanner for the first time to get my photos out there. I know there are more pictures in your archives. Just go to the welcome page and submit them....the photos are organized on the Scrapbooks pages.

Calling all classmates....I keep hearing of members of the 1986 class who have logged onto the site but not completed the "Then and Now" section so we'll have their up-to-date information....please encourage everyone to do this so we can get information out to them. We don't want to leave anyone out.....Gordon Central '86 graduates...we need you too! You were with us for many, many years so come join us too....the more, the merrier!!!!!! Also, we've had alot of people interested in putting a float together for the Homecoming Parade. We'll discuss the details at the next Reunion Planning Committee Meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 31st at 7:00 p.m. at the Calhoun Educational Complex off Raymond King Drive....behind Firehouse Gym....hope to see anyone who can make it to the meeting!!!!!!

That message of thanks was to be addressed to Tara. I left that important part off. By the way, this is great. Since I'm a stay at home mom, (or as Ginny put it, a chef, chauffer, nurse, counselor, referee, etc) this is the only adult conversation I get all day. Did I say adult? Well maybe not. But at least it's conversation.

I know what you mean, Melissa! (I've missed you, by the way!) I click on the Jacket Jive button over there with such anticipation - almost a giddy excitement! Then when there are no new posts, I feel such crushing disappointment! I promise I had a life before this web site, but for the life of me I can't remember what I did. Didn't someone mention a 12-step program? LOL

What a nice message from Coach Smith. It reminds me of the time he gave me a pep talk in Ms. Wanda Davis' algebra class after I made Jennifer Greeson cry by barking (like a dog) at her in class. She ran out of the room and into the comforting arms of Coach Smith. I was scum but I learned my lesson. Thanks for the memories Coach!

The float sounds great. And from one addict to all the others, when do we start the support group? Karen will be writing about all of us addicts in one of her editorials. I've heard from several folks about riding on a float in the Homecoming Parade. We'll try to post up-to-date information about the meeting site and plans for the flatbed. It would be great if we all wore black and gold to show our Yellow Jacket spirit. Our kids could hop on board too. Thanks Coach Smith for reminding us to cherish these memories...I hope my children have great memories from their school experiences and that they are fortunate to have such special classmates! Someone gave my mom the website address and she's addicted.....I feel like I'm back in high school all over again and she's monitoring my actions to be sure that I'm doing what a responsible teenager should....only now I'm married with children!!! Thanks mom for always being there for me...

There was actually a FOX-TV murder-mystery show about a 1986 high school class called, "Reunion" where someone was killed the night of their 20th-year class reunion. Anyone remember this show? Bryan, in response to your question the other day regarding convenience stores in Burbank, ours are comparatively run- of-the-mill and boring. I have searched everywhere for crickets and red wigglers(ala Motor Aid #6) and come up short. However, we have some of the world's greatest hamburger chains: In-N-Out Burger (not-to-be-missed), Fatburger, and Tommy's Original (no relation) as well as the original, restored '50s Bob's Big Boy restaurant, in which I have three times seen Drew Carey and once, when Andrew was with me, Parker Stevenson (of Hardy Boys fame.) Aaah, Hollywood...

They have a dozen different types of ice in the self-serve soft drink center, a gazillion different flavors of coffee, hot and iced, not to mention the stuffed breadsticks. .... oh, and the cash register folks are amazing. They can ring you up, welcome folks walking in, and talk to people at the gas pumps via microphone all at the same time....amazing. It truly is an incredible experience. I know there is a planning committee meeting on Thursday. Thanks Karen... it wasn't too hard to set up. Even an old finance guy can look like a web design guru with the right templates!

Looking at the senior play photos reminds me of that time Kaki Phillips caught Harris Jones and I hiding behind the counter in Doc's Drugstore during a scene rehearsal. I can still hear her today... "You goofballs! Get out of there!"
